How Much Does an Inground Swimming Pool Cost ?
Arnold's Pools of Myrtle Beach, SC understands that each customer's budget is as unique as the customer. We are a custom concrete pool builder because we strongly believe a shotcrete swimming pool is the best value for your money and that concrete is absolutely the best material you can use to build a swimming pool.
It's important to have a good understanding of up front costs when deciding to invest in a swimming pool. A number of variables factor into the price of the project like the location of the swimming pool, how large your pool will be and the filtration system you plan to use. You also need to consider how many months you would like to be able to swim, landscape design options, coping and decking, drainage issues and what type of special features you want to indulge in.
The list goes on and on, but there are some rules of thumb in determining how much an inground swimming pool will cost. We'll look at several different price points including, vinyl-lined pools, prefabricated fiberglass pools and custom concrete swimming pools. Above-ground pools are also included so that all the major pool types are covered.
Above-ground Swimming Pools
Above-ground pools are the least expensive type of pool construction. Prices can range up to $8,000.00 with a custom deck. Above-ground pools are quick and easy to install, but pool kits are not as durable as other pool options and when not maintained properly can become the neighborhood eye-sore that everyone dreads.
Owners have reported problems with inadequate filter pumps, incorrect equipment and filter media, mechanical parts that are near impossible to repair and poor quality pool liners. You do get what you pay for and with kits under $2000.00, problems are much more prevalent than in higher priced set-ups.
Vinyl-lined Swimming Pools
Vinyl-lined pools were an extremely popular choice in the late eighties and throughout the 90’s. Price ranges vary with $17,000 to $25,000 being the median range. An inground vinyl-liner pool is very similar to an above ground pool in regards to structure and materials.
Consider pool liner replacement when comparing prices. A vinyl pool liner has to be replaced every 5-7 years at a cost of $4,000 to $5,000 with water. Some high end liners will last longer.
The appearance of the pool structure can deteriorate over time and liners can shrink if the water has to be removed from the pool for any length of time. Improper chemical balance can cause damage to liners including wrinkling, discoloration and degradation. A damaged liner is more susceptible to tearing, root damage and erosion.
Some people have said that a vinyl lined pool “feels” like you are in an above ground pool. If you have a pet that likes to swim, be careful that their claws don’t puncture the lining!
Fiberglass Pools in Myrtle Beach
Fiberglass pools are made from a plastic that is reinforced with fiberglass and then molded into shape. Costs generally range from $18,000 to $38,000. These factory built pools arrive completely ready to go in the ground once the hole is excavated. A fiberglass pool can be plumbed, leveled and completely installed within a couple of days.
These pre-fabricated pools are durable and fairly low-maintenance. Fiberglass pools come in many shapes and sizes, but you are limited by the designs available. Since your pool is pre-made, it is more difficult to add custom features or to build to certain specifications (like a narrow lot.)
Make sure you have an adequate filtration system and beware of super low pool pricing. If the price sounds too good to be true... it probably is.
Custom Concrete Swimming Pools in Myrtle Beach
If you are shopping for a concrete swimming pool package that includes all of the essentials, your price point will be in the $23,000 range. Your inground pool package would include basic decking, underwater lights and a complete filtration system. Including additional bells and whistles like a pool heater to extend your swimming season, an automatic pool cleaner, an LED lighting system and a complete SALT filtration system will increase the median price of your inground pool to around $34,000.
Cool slides and diving boards, rock walls, waterfalls, jacuzzi spas, ornamental pool tiles and additional safety features are also available. If you can imagine it, we can build it!
